RE-Studio investigates possible architectural methods of responding to the contemporary condition, by equally surveying the existing and the past.
RE-Archive was the first project of two in the Autumn semester and was divided into a series of workshops, including redrawing archive drawings, photography and physical modelling, to essentially form the studio's archive of a selection of inner city Stockholm projects that have undergone numerous changes over the years.
The group consisted of four members and my group's case study was Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), a department store located in central Stockholm.
NK was extended three times and renovated several times since it was first built in 1913. Our approach was to capture the historical layers of NK, hence the variety of colours in the drawings in which each indicate a different time period. We further focused on the vertical spaces and elements that tie all the floors together, such as the staircases and the lightwells.
